IQ stands for intelligence quotient. Supposedly, it is a score that tells one how “bright” a person is compared to others. The average IQ is, by definition, 100; scores above 100 indicate a higher-than-average IQ, and scores below 100 indicate a lower-than-average IQ. Theoretically, scores can range from any number below or above 100.

Mensa won’t accept that score for membership, but it could end up being pretty close to what you’d score on a real IQ test. Similarly, education and hard work are easily tied to success, "IQ" is not. Now admittedly part of that is because IQ is difficult to tie down consistently, but still, you can't easily link IQ and success or knowledge. Worship of IQ (and by extension Mensa) is both a conceited way of thinking, and a self sabotaging one.

If your IQ is a 142, that puts you in the 99.75th percentile of the population… If your LSAT score is a 153, that puts you in the 55th percentile of test takers…
